Zentangle
Artist Statement
The animal I drew for my zentangle is a Tasmanian Tiger. Tasmanian Tigers were from Australia, therefore, I drew mountains and “cliffs” for my background. I also drew stars in the background to show that the piece was taken place in the nighttime. The title of my piece would be: Zentangled Tasmanian Tiger. The elements that I incorporated were contrast, texture, and line. To create my artwork, I used permanent markers. In making the zentangle I looked at examples of patterns. I also looked at other zentangles to get an idea of how I could do the background and patterns. The inspirations for drawing a Tasmanian Tiger came from the movie “The Hunter”. The movie made me curious about the extinct animal. After finding out that they were extinct, they became my favorite animal due to their fox-like face and their stripes. The goal for this artwork was to make it look like it was actually a Tasmanian Tiger and to make it obvious that it was in a hot/cool place because of the mountains and the vegetation. After completing this piece I realized that drawing a background and an animal in black and white is harder than thought due to trying not to make it look combined. It was a struggle to make the animal not look like it was part of the background due to the zentangle patterns. I think this piece will improve my black and white drawings in the future.
